MARELD developed a structural plan and planning programme for the transformation of the historic industrial area and the development of up to 500 new homes, including detached houses and smaller apartment buildings.
Parts of the programme area, including the Åkers krutbruk industrial heritage environment, are designated as an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. Based on the heritage values that are to guide the area’s continued development, the proposed buildings are shaped by a number of principles and approaches, illustrated through examples in the programme. These are described in full in the Cultural Heritage Analysis appended to the planning programme.
