MARELD has worked in close collaboration with the City of Gothenburg to develop knowledge bases and planning documents for an amendment to the masterplan for Södra Älvstranden, covering the area from Järnvågen to Klippan. In addition to developing a proposal at an overall strategic level, MARELD has carried out more detailed studies of for example Jaegerdorffsmotet, Fiskhamnen and Stigberget.
The plan addresses a range of complex structural issues, including the transformation of Oscarsleden from a major traffic route into an urban street, and the transformation of the Stena Line terminal areas into a mixed-use urban district. The proposal also introduces new public transport infrastructure in the form of the Lindholmsförbindelsen, with a tram line in a tunnel beneath the river, as well as a new public transport hub with a potential Metrobus stop and a tram stop at Stigberget.
As part of the in-depth studies, MARELD has explored solutions for managing stormwater and heavy rainfall, as well as addressing rising sea levels and flood risks in the area around Jaegerdorffsmotet and the current Fiskhamnen.
