Design Program for the Industrial Centre
The Forsåker area is known across Scandinavia and Europe for the utilization of waterpower in production of paper at the former Papyrus paper mill, which has been an important part of Mölndal’s history and development.
The post-industrial district of Forsåker is undergoing major change – from a postindustrial site, nearing dereliction to a major new urban expansion for the city Mölndal including 3,000 new homes and 4,000 workplaces. The historic buildings are being supplemented with modern architecture and filled with restaurants, trade, culture, education, a hydroelectric plant and exciting urban environments that will allow the region to flourish again.
The process that is being led by Mölndals stad, MölnDala Fastigheter AB and a consortium consisting of Aspelin Ramm, ByggVesta, Nordr, PEAB, Trollängen and Wallenstam.
In 2023 MARELD were commissioned to prepare a design program for the forthcoming revitalization of the former industrial area and to develop conceptual designs that celebrate the areas unique history and future potential.
