In 2023, MARELD together with Erséus Arkitekter, won a parallel assignment for the masterplanning and design of a new district on Åseberget in Kungälv. Thereafter both MARELD and Erséus have developed proposals for the planning programme for Åseberget. The district is intended to contain approximately 2,000 homes, a preschool, a home for the elderly and some services.
The district will be characterized by innovative and sustainable solutions that provide exceptional living quality for future residents. A network of pedestrian and cycle routes across and around the undulating site providing easy and sustainable connections to surrounding landscape, transportation hubs and the city of Kungälv. As the name alludes to, the area is located on a mountain. Therefore, significant importance has been placed on the design of infrastructure, mobility solutions and their relation to existing topography. Public transport will be readily available to all residents and visitors. To minimize vehicular movement across the site cars will be directed towards mobility hubs on the peripheries of the development area.

Detailed design started in 2017 with a dialogue process with the public and high school pupils. The suggestions and comments from this process helped to adjust the proposal to meet local needs even better. For instance, the market building was downsized and more activities for children and youths added. Our proposal divides the site into a park, an urban square, and a drastically smaller parking area. Public space in human scale where culture, market and greenery meet are created.
