Our task was to redesign the existing festival ground for the city of Keila. The site is a few minutes walking distance from the town center and is strategically located between a hospital, sports facilities, schools, and residential areas. To increase the everyday use of the area we decided to create a new landscape park that connects all the surrounding areas.
The starting point was to find, value and empower the existing qualities by using the fewest possible interactions. The sensitive shifting and remodeling of the Soviet era landforms creates a stronger cohesion between the open-air stage, pathways and its surroundings and creates a multifunctional landscape.
New habitats are created for various plants, animals, and insects. The establishment of continuously mowed grass surfaces has been avoided, the vegetation to be established is shrub and meadow grass – communities that are equally favorable for insects, small mammals, and small birds. The creation of ecological traps is avoided, and a full opportunity is given for the maximum functioning of the existing green corridor.
